Tributes to Martin Banks

Our wonderful friend and longstanding choir member Martin Banks sadly passed away on Friday Jan 15 2021

So many have wanted to share their memories of Martin, so here is a space to pay tribute to our kind and talented bass, whose huge heart will be sorely missed.

“With me being a newer member, I was a little nervous, but Martin always made an effort to come and say hello, remembering my name, which meant a lot.”

“He gave so much to choir, always active in helping arrange concerts and annual celebrations. One of my favourite memories of Martin is him singing The Boars Carol at Hoghton Tower, his rich voice filling the Banqueting Hall and beyond.”

“I always felt I raised my game when I was singing next to Martin. How could you not?”

“When I first joined, Martin was the one who really helped me settle in. I’ll miss singing with him. Not sure we could ever replace him.”

“He was especially friendly and lovely to chat to.”

“Having Martin singing behind me always gave me confidence, especially when I was feeling a bit unsure.”

“Martin had such a love of music, he couldn’t hide it, which made us all enjoy it too.”
